Qualifying Numbers and Conclusion Times

At Niagara several issues were brought up which we feel may merit some input and discussion.

Mainly Qualifying count. Normally we don't have a great many opportunities each season to do so but running of qualifiers on Sunday.

Now currently the only rules governing how qualifying is run is Section 8. Subsection 7 governs when qualifying rounds can be run on Sunday.

This was mainly implemented to keep conclusion times reasonable to get racers on their way. However this is the constant balancing act with trying to squeeze as much racing in a possible.

Additionally thus far this year we have yet to have a race weekend unscathed by weather delays. This has resulted in qualifying being concluded on Sunday before the main.

We're looking for feedback regarding whether this is something that needs further review and possibly clarification in the rule book.

Currently Glorcs leaves the decision making process for these issues to the Race Director. We wish to know where specifically the race population lies with regards to this issue.

i agree 100% that the racers should give input on this matter of running qualifers on sunday and trying to get the racers home earlier. glorcs states that the decision to add addotional qualifiers was left up to the glorcs race director but i can say my teammate, sean robbilard was the race director for the niagara race and by no means was the decision to run a forth qualifier made by him. it was made by the track owner , matt and matt alone. we were told by matt that the majority of racers wanted a 4th qualifier but when alot of us racers were discussing this nobody seemed to want a 4th qualifier, certainly not the majority of the racers. some of us went to talk to matt about gathering the drivers and doing a real vote and he wanted hothing of that. he basically said the best thing about rc racing is that if you dont like it you can leave. and that was that. so by running the 4th qulaifier today all it did was keep everyone hours later when it really wasnt necessary. we could stuck to 3 quals , given longer mains to all the classes and everyone could have gotten home alot sooner. 3 day races are long enough and when you have some inclement weather to boot by the sunday you really appreciate heading home on the sunday as soon as possible. i hope everyone gives input on this subject so that in the future the tracks are held accountable to abide by glorcs rules if they choose to hold a glorcs race event. and if they dont want to abide then they dont get another race. pretty cut and dry from where im sitting.

Matt was the race director, Sean was the Series Rep....The track was adhering to GLORCS rules concerning quals on Sunday. This is an issue we have not had to address in a couple of years because the numbers have always precluded a Sunday qual. The rule about quals on Sundays needs to be clarified, there was alot of discussion about how to determine if more than one qual should be run on Sunday. As a result a rule change is forth coming that will address the concerns brought forward on that issue..

The issue that I have is when we left Saturday night we were told we would finish the one qual that got rained out, then run a third round Sunday morning and then right into mains.

I told my kids I would be home before they went to bed. So then I have to call the wife back on Sunday and say everything has changed and she has to be the bad guy and dissapoint the kids.

It should not have been cahnged and if racers wanted a 4 qual it should have been discussed and voted on Saturday.

This is a Glorcs race and I therefore feel Glorcs should have more say on how it is being run.

idea - charge track a deposit (on top of the $300) and if they live up to what they say they get it back. Live up to 1/2 of what they say get 1/2 back etc. etc.
